Our approach to grappling deviates from the established norms of current guidelines and regulations governing the sport. Instead, we have devised a unique set of scoring guidelines and regulations specifically tailored to align with law enforcement protocols on Use of Force (may be defined as the "amount of effort required by a person to compel compliance by an unwilling person”). While grappling offers valuable training, certain aspects of its techniques are not practical for non-deadly force encounters.
Grappling’s emphasis on control, leverage, and non-brute force methods equips officers with effective restraint and control techniques, employing control techniques, secure holds, and positioning to subdue non-compliant individuals. Moreover, grappling fosters confidence and mental resilience in high-pressure situations, enabling individuals to maintain composure, assess scenarios accurately, and respond proportionately, thereby minimizing the likelihood of unnecessary escalations. Additionally, grappling’s emphasis on adaptability and quick thinking cultivates an individual’s ability to react adeptly to unpredictable circumstances, empowering them to employ techniques suited to the dynamic nature of encountered situations.
There will be two divisions established for the competition:
* TAKEDOWN: if no takedown is achieved at the half way point of a match, competitors will be moved to a grounded position with the referee deciding who gets dominate position. (Competitor who was deemed the most active/dominant will get top position starting in half guard.)
* SECONDs HOLD: this is an out loud count; referee will count out loud to the 5 second count. (Competitors caught in a hold will have 20 seconds after the 5 second count to attempt to escape, if no escape, referee will stop match and both competitors start back from standing.)
* ARM & SHOULDER CONTROL TAPS: Kimura, Arm Bar, Americana, Key Locks (these holds can be used to obtain a tap which will reset the match to standing)
* CONTROLLED POSITIONS: Mount, Side Control, Knee on Belly (opponent back pinned to ground) (north-south is not a control hold)
